ISLAND SAGA III by phigun

Island Saga III 2015 This was easily one of the most amazing and colorful sunsets I have ever whitnessed during my travels and one of those super rare and special moments as a landscape photographer. This sunset highlights the ridiculously beautiful waterfall Seljalandsfoss located in south Iceland right on the ringroad. I camped right across the street and we just had lunch and enjoyed the evening as this sunset sets in, I quickly grapped my tripod and my filters and ran to the waterfall. I fired about 100 shots one after another, in between I also captured some video material. I was quite excited and scared at the same time to mess this shot because this was a one of a kind oportunity and only the second perfect sunset overall during my 11 day roadtrip. I keep redefining my landscape photography vision simply because I constantly develop in the field and switch sources of inspiration. My way of landscape photography execution doesn’t involve going to places and shooting the first appealing composition. Instead I like to take risks and come up with new approaches. Before I start shooting, firstly I need to feel the place. And I mean in it in a holistic approach. Each of my photos is a combination of composition, technical skills and deeper connection with the photographed location. One doesn’t exist without the other. I would never go to the place just to take couple photos, but I frequently go to places and explore them even if I don’t shoot. This photo features Brandywine Falls in BC, near Whistler. Every time when I look at this waterfall I reassure myself that it looks more interesting from its very edge than from the bottom. Island Saga I, 2015 For sure I also captured some of these famous spots too but for me it was more about trying to explore and find places that are not overvisited by us photographers these days. I loved this beautiful calm and reduced sunset scene in the middle of nowhere on one smaller road in northern iceland. i was just looking for a place to sleep at around 11'o clock as I found myself jumping out the car trying to capture this lovely little moment. All of the conditions you see in this one were completely in camera. My previous image was shot on the same day but the light was changing by the minute with passing rain clouds in the area. Max Foster and I got very lucky because by the end of shooting there wasn't a cloud in the sky, which would have made LE exposures pretty difficult since I don't typically use ND filters. The amount of water coming over the falls was pretty intense and I had my camera only about a foot or so from the water while shooting this one so staying dry was no easy feet. Why am I still posting pictures here, I wonder more and more. Since passing the 500 followers mark, it has been nothing but zero exposure and seeing photos hit the 99% mark with huge halos or over saturated areas is sending a signal that maybe I am posting in the wrong place. Despite loving seeing a lot of incredible work that can be found here, for us without a lot of followers this pulse system is too bizarre to say the least. Most of the time it will go to popular in a few minutes then it is like my stuff is gone completely, nothing for the next 23 hours. I want to thank everyone still following me and writing meaningful comments. By that I mean not writing comments all day long to hope that their work will get a nicer pulse, or not following me hoping that I will do the same and once I click the follow button they stop following me... but to really share their feedback with me. This weekend was spent enjoying fresh mountain air and beautiful wildflowers that seemed to have been timed perfectly for my visit. I met up with a few local photographers from around AZ and we spent the weekend wandering through the vast expanses of yellow sunflowers. These flowers really only bloom for a very short period of time, so I was pretty happy when I got there and saw the hills covered in gold! We endured a few nice sunsets and some typical monsoon thunderstorms. I always noticed these dead trees far up on the hillside and always wanted to get a decent photograph of them. I worked a few angles on a couple trees while the sunset started to go off. These trees reminded me of both bristlecone pines and the white bark pines that one can find in Montana. It was a nice weekend spent in the high country that was definitely much needed. For those that knew Jeff Swanson either personally or online knows he always brought joy and laughter to all of us. He was unfortunately taken too soon by Melanoma about a year ago, but his images live on and if you happen to enjoy his images please do purchase one of his prints. As I stood in the fog filled forest, I couldn't help myself from thinking of dinosaurs chasing me through this forest! So childish I know, but the primeval mood of the forest was so enchanting. The mood was that of a movie set, that was deep within the forest. Occasion the inner kid comes out of me. Before a terrible storm...my friend was driving, gradually, the clouds thickened and we saw it...we jumped out of the car to catch this phenomenon. A strong wind was blowing and without a tripod to shoot was incredibly difficult, but the tripod we had so we knelt down and shot a panorama. In 20 metres from us was struck by a tremendous lightning and every minute was scary...suddenly the cloud began to change shape, turning into a giant jellyfish with a bluish tentacles. The Other Side by Pcoskun

One of the coolest things I have experienced was being able to walk behind a massive waterfall. This is the same waterfall that I shared titled "Tamanawasafros". It's not really difficult to get up here, but you do need to have some good footing as the rocks can be slippery and loose. It's also a good idea to have a rain jacket or raincover as you have to cross through the mist that these falls produce. The payoff however is worth it. It's still pretty hard to get some scale, but I was actually leaning as far back against the rocky wall as I could crouching underneath my camera so I could get the right angle to enclose the falls between the roof of the alcove and the ground. It might look like there is lots of space to wander around here, but do not be fooled. The soil is very loose and its all on a slight incline. Not to mention that the rocks above a dripping making it hard to still keep dry. Anyways, just thought I would share this shot and the experience with you all.
