Northern Lights Finale - With Arild Heitmann Processing Tutorial Videos Processing Instruction via Skype I don't request this often, because normally I don't care much and I'm sure you don't either... But please view this one on black. A shot from a while ago I never got around to posting. Fairly simple scene here of Carson Mountain in the early spring while snowshoeing around looking for something a little different from the area. This was a few exposures blended together for depth of field, a bit of dodging and burning to enhance the fog coming off the lake in the background, and a plethora of luminosity adjustments to dial in the contrast where I liked it. Maybe 20min of processing total. Anyways, I'm gearing up for some more arctic travel here in a few weeks with my good friend Arild Heitmann. We also have another trip next March that is filling fast! I'm willing to bet these trips to the Arctic will be even more productive than our last. I can't wait! Also, I just released a new post-processing instructional video a few days back. It's packed with some unique techniques and theories about processing you may not find anywhere else. People seem to really be enjoying the videos and have had nothing but great things to say, so I *think* they are helping people... it's been awesome to see the many before/after shots people have been emailing me. "Wahe Flow" – Wahe Falls on Moffett Creek, Columbia River Gorge, OR “Like” my photography page on Facebook:TheWorldExplored Purchase a print:Print Shop On my first full day in the Gorge area, I planned on hitting as many waterfalls as possible. I started with the easiest hikes in order to avoid the crowds, and was on trail at 5AM. By 3PM I had hiked to 7 different falls and was in need of a nap. Considering I only had a couple days in Oregon though, I decided to scratch the nap and head to Wahe. The hike itself is really a lot of fun if you have energy. In hindsight I should have started the day with this rather than ended with it. Getting to Wahe entails hiking gorge trail #400 and then hiking in the water of Moffett creek until you get to the falls. The nicest part of this hike is that I didn’t see another person the entire time, which is quite a contrast to some of the gorge hot spots. Round trip from the Elowah parking lot was about 4 hours and I was beat when I got back. Anyway, it was a jam packed day that was totally worth it! One of the coolest things I have experienced was being able to walk behind a massive waterfall. This is the same waterfall that I shared titled "Tamanawasafros". It's not really difficult to get up here, but you do need to have some good footing as the rocks can be slippery and loose. It's also a good idea to have a rain jacket or raincover as you have to cross through the mist that these falls produce. The payoff however is worth it. It's still pretty hard to get some scale, but I was actually leaning as far back against the rocky wall as I could crouching underneath my camera so I could get the right angle to enclose the falls between the roof of the alcove and the ground. It might look like there is lots of space to wander around here, but do not be fooled. The soil is very loose and its all on a slight incline. Not to mention that the rocks above a dripping making it hard to still keep dry. Anyways, just thought I would share this shot and the experience with you all. This past Spring has been eventful with regards to shooting waterfalls around the Pacific Northwest, and I'm finally getting around to processing a few of them. I haven't been posting photos very much due to spending a lot of time lately preparing for my upcoming wedding in August. Here is an image taken a few weeks ago on a rainy, foggy day in Central Oregon. After seeing Rami Jabaji's awesome take on this place (apparently him, Terence Lee and I were all in the same location that weekend without realizing it), I pondered whether or not I should even attempt to process mine, but I still decided to give it a go anyhow. If you haven't already checked out his image of Sahalie Falls, then you definitely should! I was lucky enough to have this entire area to myself on this particular evening and the conditions were more than accommodating for waterfall shooting. A light drizzle continued on throughout the evening and the misty, dreary sort of atmosphere added a nice touch to the beautiful area. And, In case you are wondering...yes, the water really is a lovely, striking blue-aqua color. As I sat there for a good couple of hours taking my surroundings in, I was thankful that I had made the last minute decision to head here, along with some other waterfalls in the Central Oregon area. It is definitely one of my new favorite waterfall destinations and it was a nice change from dealing with the crowds in the Gorge on the weekend. As always, thanks for taking a look. Sahalie Sweepstakes - Sahalie Falls, OR This past weekend Terence and I decided to do a quick road trip down to the Coastal California Redwoods, hitting Central Oregon on the way down and then back up through the coast on the way up. The weather wasn't cooperating so we decided to hit up some waterfalls in Central Oregon on the way back. Terence had never been to Sahalie Falls so I decided to show him some of the cool waterfalls that are often ignored due to nearby epic Proxy Falls. I also had something in mind. Last time I was here, I noticed the sweeping blue water that plunged beautifully into the McKenzie River. I wanted to access it so bad but it wasn't safe. On this morning, it looked like the water level might just be safe enough to access the spot I had previously hoped to reach. Standing here, my tripod was being crushed by the water on the left so I had to reenforce it while trying to wipe my lens from the spray between takes. As soon as I exposed a shot, I knew I had what I was looking for. I spent a while playing with slight variations to the composition, but ultimately decided on this one. Famous for it's reflection shots, I was shocked to see it frozen on springtime! Trillium Chopped Down ( please view on Black for optimal Pop! ) Stay up to date at with the latest at Visit EyeOfAlens I couldn't return to Oregon & not venture to Trillium again. Most images from here are taken back further & the wider view of the lake, but quite frankly thats been done so many times it just doesn't do it for me . Sure there are some elements in this id rather not have & could clone out, but would rather show it as it is. Now this tree which I'm assuming was NOT done by the park services, as I simply cant imagine them chopping it like this & just leaving it. So either it was pure vanadalsim or perhaps a photographer thought it would make for a good added foreground ( No I did not chop it down ) but made use of it ! even sat on it at one point to just suck it all in. I have managed to capture Mt Hood this time from a number of locations & one in particular I'm excited about as I don't believe I have ever seen an image captured from before. via 500px http://bit.ly/1Fa24tt

Milky Way bow over hiker on Faltegartenkoepfl Tyrol, Austria. I named the pic "Per Aspera ad Astra"‬ (through hardships to the stars) for I haven't experienced a comparable cold bivouac the whole winter (and yes, we´ve had a few this winter season ). Pretty weird that the coldest one in winter season 2014/15 had been the first bivouac in spring. The whole equipment had been covered with frost within minutes. If I hadn´t used a "Lensheater" I would´t have been able to realize a single 30 sec shot without frost on the front lens. After one hour of shooting even my clothes had been covered with frost and after 3 hours I had to get in my expedition down sleeping bag for my toes had been completely numb. At least I have been able to realize two shots I had been thinking of for months. Only in spring the milky way has the perfect alignment for the "bow" over the hiker. In the light polluted valley you can see my home 1500m below. During my toes were coming back to "life" tinglingly and stingingly, my second camera had been shooting a timelapse sequence for the rest of the night. via 500px http://500px.com/photo/105946145
