Photo by @pedromcbride // Snow or salt? The Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat sitting at 11,000 feet high in the #Andes of #Bolivia. I did a story on salt miners in this enchanted high altitude realm. Each worker scraped salt into piles for transport and wrote their initials for payment ($5 a day on average). Today, they are mining more than salt. Over 50% of the world's lithium reserves lie beneath this ancient salt lake — which helps power cellphone batteries and more.
