Warning: this video contains graphic scenes. McKamey Manor is one of the most extreme haunted house experiences in the US. Located in Russ McKamey’s San Diego backyard, the full ‘haunt’ lasts eight hours, yet no one has managed to complete it. McKamey has amassed a cult following online and says there is a 27,000-person waiting list, but does his event cross the line from fright to torture?

Learn more about the project by watching the “Making of Biologic” here: http://bit.ly/1KIlGEs Initiated from MIT Media Lab, BioLogic is our attempt to program living organism and invent responsive and transformable interfaces of the future. Nature has engineered its own actuators, as well as the efficient material composition, geometry and structure to utilize its actuators and achieve functional transformation. Based on the natural phenomenon of hygromorphic transformation, we introduce a specific type of living cells as nanoactuators that react to body temperature and humidity change. The living nanoactuator can be controlled by electrical signal and communicate with the virtual world as well. A digital printing system and design simulation software are developed to assist the design of transformation structure.

Kai is a dancer struggling to perfect her movements. She practices at home, avoids going out for drinks after training, and is endlessly chastised by her dance teacher, all to no avail. This changes when she has a collision with joy, and learns how to let go and express her pleasure freely. Earlier this year, Magnum ice-cream teamed up with i-D to create a short film competition called “Be True To Your Pleasure”, inviting emerging filmmakers to send in their short film ideas about personal pleasure and the joy of letting go. The three winners were announced in August and received funding, production support and a mentorship from award-winning filmmaker Xavier Dolan to help make their ideas reality. From the director, Braden Lee: “Tokyo is this futuristic-dystopian metropolis rich in tradition and modernism. My goal was to merge these two themes. Throughout the story we follow two contemporary dancers to the famous Shibuya 5-way crossing. We also observe a mysterious masked figure. This ominous mask comes from a theatrical drama called "Noh” which the Japanese have been practicing since the 14th century. The actual mask you see here is over 400 yrs old and represents an angel - passed down through generations. Today, there’s just a handful left performing Noh as it solely depends on the disinterested youth to keep it alive" Stream song here : http://bit.ly/1PUznaf Follow Braden Lee on Instagram - http://bit.ly/1Resuix Follow HWLS on Soundcloud - soundcloud.com/hwls Create & Explore on; Instagram - http://bit.ly/1PUznag Soundcloud - http://bit.ly/1ResuiA Website - createandexplore.co Dancers & Choreography: Daisuke Omiya, Ayumi Nitta Video Production: Grant Spanier Intro Sound Mix: Greg Geitzenauer

Winner at D&AD Awards 2015: http://bit.ly/1GwucLy Pete’s Story is a true account of a boy that suffered from his mother’s violence over his childhood years in the UK. NSPCC and Lovers invited me to create this frame by frame watercolour ink animation to communicate the story’s haunting and delicate atmosphere. NSPCC is the leading children’s charity in the UK and is widely known for its long fight for childhood protection. The film was used to reach out potential donors and to create awareness among young people about child abuse and what NSPCC can do to help. The idea was to convey a mixture of fear, solitude and the imminence of violence confined inside this labyrinthic house, in contrast with the green touch points that show potential (but unused, in this case) interfaces between Pete and NSPCC. I worked five months to create this watercolour animation frame by frame, on paper, and then compose it digitally in post production. I’ll be posting a making of soon. I finally had a moment to piece together the last years worth of drone work from my travels in the North West. Far out, trimming 6 hours of footage to 4 minutes is not easy! Locations filmed were primarily in the Hamersley range and Karijini National park areas, but also includes scenery around Pannawonica, Milstream-Chichester & Tom Price. I love this part of the country and having the opportunity to film from the sky is nothing short of awesome. Filmed with a GH4 & Inspire 1. Music: Dreamlife / Tony Anderson.

The Whistler segment from Level 1’s 16th annual feature, Small World. Want more? Small World is now available in your favorite format: iTunes: http://bit.ly/smallworldmovie Vimeo: http://bit.ly/1RZjvCv DVD/BluRay: http://bit.ly/201p3Sm Directed by Josh Berman Cinematography by Josh Berman, Jonny Durst, and Zach Moxley Edited by Josh Berman Sound Design/Score by Stephan Chaikovsky and Schui Baumann Director Josh Berman recounts the back story of this shoot: This one has been in the making for a few years. When we last shot in Whistler back in 2013 for Partly Cloudy, we approached them with the idea of a giant step-up to step-down and the snow just didn’t cooperate. Snow levels again worked against us in 2014 and we scrapped plans altogether, but this year—despite the challenging winter that the Pacific Northwest experienced—the stars finally aligned and Chris McLeod [film and communications supervisor] and Charles Beckinsale [head park builder] worked to find a location that had the terrain and the snow to accommodate our feature. Charles is a wizard with the cat and ultimately made some tweaks to our design to fit his vision, and the end result was one of the most impressive snow sculptures I’ve ever seen. The lines were so smooth and the aesthetic so unique that we opted to not sheer the wall of the step-over. I know Charles really wanted to cut it, and the feature would have looked 10-times gnarlier, but it was so perfect that we didn’t want to change anything. And we figured we’d save Whistler Blackcomb some money on the already stretched cat budget! About Small World: Go out into the world, they say… see it for yourself! But in an age where any destination is in the palm of your hand- just a click away, what is left to truly explore? Level 1 examines the universal dialect of moving down snow on two feet through a lens of fresh perspective- documenting the outer niches of a sport pushed under the rug by the modern day ski zeitgeist. From the secret valleys of Switzerland, the ancient cities of Estonia, to the rowdy rope-tows of Minnesota- follow us around the globe as we capture skiing in its purest form. It’s a Small World, after all. Small World Awards: “FILM OF THE YEAR” - IF3 Film Festival, Montreal

Presented by Philips Ambilight TV In Association with Specialized and TomTom Bandit ActionCam Supported by Freefly Systems (MOVI), Bike Magazine, and CLIF Bar The lights haven’t gone out yet! Sweetgrass Productions is back with Darklight, a film that takes viewers back into a world of light and color. Supported by innovative television manufacturer Philips TV, this is the third collaboration between the soulful filmmakers at Sweetgrass Productions and Swedish creative house Ahlstrand and Wållgren. Follow professional mountain bikers Graham Agassiz, Matt Hunter, and Matty Miles on a mind-bending night ride through the moonscapes of Southern Utah to the Ewok forests of the Pacific Northwest. A physically and mentally demanding production, this piece was shot during the midnight hours over three intense weeks. With a scrappy and determined crew of 27, thousands of pounds of camera and lighting gear was slogged, rigged, soldered, hung and broken down each night. Unlike anything ever seen before in the world of mountain biking, Darklight features arrestingly beautiful landscapes and world class riding. An evolution of its predecessors, Darklight continues to push the creative bounds of action sports cinema. Pakistani-American artist Anila Quayyum Agha uses light and cast shadow to transform Rice Gallery into a sacred space of her own making that is open to all. “Intersections” is inspired by Agha’s seminal experience of exclusion as a woman from Mosques, a space of community and creativity, while growing up in Pakistan. The wooden frieze emulates a pattern from the Alhambra, a palace where Islamic and Western discourses met and co-existed in harmony, and serves as a metaphor of union. On view September 24 - December 6, 2015. Original score by Mark Walley. Visit www.RiceGallery.org. Learn more about the artist at www.AnilaAgha.com. http://bit.ly/1PqEu2O Zack came to us with the idea of telling a story through dance : A love story that is tangled in addiction. We see the consequences of a lover who is struggling with her partners disease and the person he once was, only to succumb to his demons and dive head first into his addiction. The choreography was created and rehearsed over a period of several days with Tamara, who is known also as the French singer Shy’m rather than a dancer. It was shot in an abandoned warehouse in Paris, formerly used for creating glassware and silverware. All natural lighting, thanks to the clouds and dirty windows :) :: Directed by Charles Baldassarra :: Choregraphed by Zack Benitez :: With Tamara Marthe and Zack Benitez :: Camera/Lenses/Gear : Red Dragon / Leica Summicron / DJI Ronin :: Editing/Grading : Premiere Pro with .r3d 6k native files / Colorista II :: Music : Daughter - Medicine

“We need to talk about Alice” was commissioned by New Zealand based agency String Theory and created to be part of Good Books’ “Great Writers Series,” a collection of short films made to promote the non profit organization (www.gogoodbooks.com) which is an online charity book store that sells book and donates all proceeds to Oxfam, an organization that fights hunger and poverty since 1995. In the last few years, a select group of directors have donated their time and knowledge to create animated shorts based on renowned literary works and authors to promote this charity. In 2012, Buck launched the amazing “Metamorphosis”, a tribute to author Hunter S. Thompson. Then came “Havana Heat” in 2013, a sensual animation produced by renowned duo McBess and Simon from The Mill. Plenty had the honor of creating the third a 2:30 minute short film for Good Books based on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s adventures in Wonderland” to commemorate the book’s 150th anniversary. After a lot of dedication, hard work and passion for what we do, it’s our pleasure to introduce “We need to talk about Alice” We’ll be posting more about the project soon! We have a 5 minute breakdown where you’ll be able to see the whole process for this amazing adventure we embarked in! A lot of process stills, extra content and some magical gifs! We hope you love it! We were honored to be a part of a series of shorts that will leave a mark in the history of motion graphics. – Directed & Produced by Plenty Creative Directors: Pablo Alfieri & Mariano Farías Art Director: Elda Broglio Animation Director: Mariano Farías Executive Producer: Inés Palmas Producer: César Morán Mazo Concept by: String Theory E.C.D.: Jeremy Taine Writers: Devon Wood & Jeremy Taine Music & Sound Design: Liquid Studios Music Composer: Peter van der Fluit & Liquid Studios Storyboard & Animatic: Claudio Iriarte & Mariano Farías Character Design: Elda Broglio, Claudio Iriarte & German Merlo Production Design: Elda Broglio, Carolina Carballo & Eugenia Mello Background Design: Eugenia Mello & Elda Broglio Books Covers Design: Pablo Alfieri 3D Modelling: Juan Martín Miyagi, Matías Fernandez, Juan Pablo Fernandez , Benjamín Jagusieczko & Natalia Urrutia Scripting: Agustín Schilling & Ago Carrera CG Supervisor, 3D Technical Direction and FX: Agustín Schilling Character Rigging: Germán Merlo, Agustín Schilling, Benjamín Jagusieczko, Ramiro Tell & Guillermo Comoli Skin Fixing: Agustín Schilling, German Merlo & Nicolás Mandelman 3D Character Animation: Mauro Serei, Pablo Lorenzo, Laura Lempert & German Merlo 3D Animation: German Merlo, Mariano Farías & Hernán Estevez 2D Animation & Transitions: Germán Merlo, Mau Lencinas , Sergio Slepczuk, Hernán Estevez & Mariano Farías Animation Consulting: Federico Radero Painting & Texturing: Carolina Carballo, Elda Broglio, Benjamín Jagusieczko & Eugenia Mello Shading: Ago Carrera Lead Lighter: Ago Carrera Lighting: Ago Carrera, Benjamín Jagusieczko, Juan Casale, Natalia Urrutia & Matias Mastrogiano 3D Rendering: Ago Carrera, Benjamín Jagusiecsko & Agustín Schilling Lead VFX & 2D Technical Direction: Matías Mastrogiano Compositors: Matías Mastrogiano & Nicolás Holodovsky, Benjamín Jagusiecsko, Milena Girini & Edgardo Osornio Edition & Montage: Mariano Farías Live Action Actors Coach:: Valeria Grossi Live Action Casting Camera: Sandra Grossi Casting Alice: Catalina Alexander Mad Hatter: Julián Puchetta White Rabbit & Rose: Karina Hernandez VO Presenter: Michael Hurst Voice Over Artists Alice: Brie Ana Hill Mad Hatter: Syd Jackson Lady Rose: Tania Anderson White Rabbit: Ian Hughes Cheshire Cat: Michael Hurst Special Thanks: Alín Bosnoyan, Mariela Fabregas, Sam McManus & Eduardo Graña

The Hero’s Journey | Is my graduation project for the University HKU | Image and Media Technology Since the beginning of time people are fascinated by stories of hero’s. But did you know there is a fundamental structure that’s lies beneath all these tales of fantasy. Joseph Campbell, a famous mythologist, was the first to discover similarities within all ancient myths. He called it the Monomyth. According to him there are 17 stages in which every hero has to walk through one way or the other. In the hero’s journey 12 of these stages are visualized by using iconic blockbuster movies that follow the same structure of storytelling. In the rush of water spilling from the high mountain peaks of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho, surfers are finding standing waves that move with life and never end. This first of two short films is a snapshot of one of the many unique river cultures in the American West. These shorts, along with the stories of others who share that intimate relationship with the world of moving water, will make a short film titled “Living Rivers” to be released at film festivals in spring of 2016. Special thanks to Strongwater Mountain Surf company for backing the production of this short film. “Always This Late” performed by ODESZA. Written by Clayton Knight and Harrison Mills. This film is about the things we most wish we could control and just cannot: love and death. The album that Robyn and Christian Falk and Markus Jägerstedt made together is, to us, humbling. In the face of it, we made something that hinges on Robyn’s hypersensitivity and that we hope shows both her strength and the wisdom in submitting to the dancefloor.

One of my biggest pet peeves in art is the lazily-desaturated DSLR video. “Black & White In Color” is my personal response to treating black and white as an editing afterthought. This short video is the culmination of a year and a half of experimentation with black and white textures. Please note: in some instances, color is unavoidable – dark purples, greens, and blues separate out of black dye within a few minutes. “Black & White In Color” is the first in a pair of videos that contrast black and white with color, minimalism with maximalism. The paired video is tentatively named “Oversaturated.” Hand-lettered titles by North Carolina calligrapher Dara Linn. Many thanks to the Triangle Calligraphers Guild. Blu-Ray discs available here: http://bit.ly/1MZa04u Song by Kerry Muzzy: “Palladio Rebuilt” (on iTunes: http://bit.ly/pall_MO) Follow me: http://bit.ly/1TUL7Ko / https://twitter.com/mikeolbinski / http://on.fb.me/1JhP5cY / http://bit.ly/1TUL7Kt ———————————- I’ve been chasing the monsoon in Arizona for about 6-7 years now. This summer was different though. Back in late July, I was wondering why it felt like I was out chasing more than ever before. And then I remembered. I had a job last summer. This year I didn’t. I went full-time photography in November of 2014 and haven’t looked back. I was free to roam and had virtually no limitations. I even had multiple chases where I never actually wend to bed, but instead chased all night. I took the kids to New Mexico at one point early in the season. Last year I counted roughly 31 total days that I chased a storm during the monsoon. This summer: 48. Yikes. 17,000 miles driven, which was about 3,000 more than last year. Perhaps the biggest difference this year was shooting nearly 60,000 more time-lapse frames than I did in 2014. 105,000 total. And what sticks out to me even more than any of the other numbers above, is that only 55,000 of those 105,000 frames made it into Monsoon II. What that means is I was able to stuff this new film with only of the best of the best. We missed out on some of the huge dust storms like I’ve captured in years past, but overall, I think this represents some of the best weather I’ve ever photographed in Arizona. There are stunning shelf clouds, gorgeous rain shafts, lots of blowing dust, tons of lightning, and even multiple mini-supercells/mesocyclones. The brief meso over Cottonwood at the 3:38 mark is one of my all-time favorites. I can’t talk much more about the film without addressing the music real quick. The song is called Palladio (Rebuilt) and it’s once again by the amazing Kerry Muzzey who donated it to me for Monsoon II. He also let me use another song of his for my previous film, The Chase and I’m beyond grateful for his generosity. I mean, how do you thank someone enough for that? Click here to find the song on iTunes and please support his work! I’ve said it a million times…the music is at least 50% of these movies I make. Kerry’s art helps bring my films to life. Thank you my friend! When I’m out there capturing footage for these films, I’m constantly thinking about the story I want to tell. For example, I wanted a lot of erupting, towering cumulus at the beginning to launch into the meatier clips. I started laying out the film back in mid-August. Certain clips I already knew would be in certain places in relation to the ups and downs of the song itself. As the season wore on, I gathered more and more clips and began to lay out the entire film. I’d remove clips when I got something better. There was exhausting editing, re-editing, looping music, reluctantly dropping clips that didn’t work or were unfixable and watching it over, and over and over, to make sure I was telling the story I wanted to tell. At one point, about halfway through…I was telling Jina that I have a lot of great stuff, but still haven’t shot the final scene yet. I had no idea what it would be, but I knew I didn’t have it. And then that very night (or maybe the next day)…I was out west of Tonopah and I knew on the way home that the monsoon had finally delivered my ending. That is what is so amazing about doing this. You hit the road with zero idea about what you’re going to see over the course of a summer. You might imagine scenarios or have ideas, but they get blown out of the water by reality. And that’s what I love about it. My hope is that you can see and feel that love in this film. The beauty of the monsoon in Arizona. This is where I’m from and this is home. More on the story here: http://bit.ly/1OlnsTh ——————– Technical Details: Captured with Canon 5D3’s, a 5D2, Canon 16-35mm, Rokinon 14, 24, 35 and 85mm. SUMER - 3D Animation Short-Film For unknown reasons, the Earth’s ionosphere has weakened dramatically during the course of the last century, resulting in the collapse of the entire ecosystem. Earth has become an increasingly hostile and uninhabitable place and with no shield to protect it, it is at the full mercy of meteors. All animal and plant species perished decades ago. All that remains is one small group of humans who attempt to resist the hostility and hardness of the external environment from SUMER, the last hive city in the world, which has been specifically designed to keep the population alive through oxygen supply systems. The media manipulates the available information in a manner that is purposely designed to keep people obsessed on the potential of the space exodus, letting any hope of prevailing on earth go. A young boy, Hermes, lives alone in a compartment, the property of the government, which is located close to the wall that delimits the city, an area that is highly guarded by the SSW (SUMER Security Watchers). While observing the desert from the roof of a building, Hermes suddenly sees something that grabs his attention… ——————————————————————- In October 2014, SUMER started to be screened internationally throughout the festival circuit. It has been officially selected by more than 50 festivals, including the “Cleveland International Film Festival”, which is an Academy Qualifying Festival, and the prestigious “New Port Beach Film Festival”. Furthermore, SUMER has won 14 Festivals: Irvine Film Festival and Phoenix Comicon, among others. http://on.fb.me/1FSnsYu http://twitter.com/sumermovie sumermovie.com Director: Alvaro García – alvaro@sumermovie.com Representation: Scott Glassgold / Ground Control – scott@groundcontrol-la.com

Samsung 4K Challenge Grand Prize Winner (http://bit.ly/1KY9fWo) Directed by Evan Mann http://bit.ly/1D5Zkir www.evanmann.com Commissioned by Samsung and PDN Magazine Music is courtesy of the Music Bed (www.musicbed.com) My friend Kira encouraged me to apply to the Samsung 4K Challenge, and so I did and unexpectedly became a top ten finalist. Samsung overnighted me the NX500 camera and told me I had two weeks to create a 5 minute film with it. Bad news was that it was the busiest two weeks of the year, and writing, directing and producing a film would be impossible, so I decided to document a week or so of my life. Composed of people, places, experiences, and events, this film is a behind the scenes glance of time as seen from my perspective. The result of this project is to me both personal and contrived. Every time I hit the record button, I questioned my intentions and authenticity of the moment. While editing, I was able to skew context, and time, rework sound and disembody sequences of actual events in my life. With the content being so personal, this made me somewhat uncomfortable, but this is the job of a filmmaker: we manipulate time, light, sound and sequence to make it what we want. I walk away from this project with a better understanding of my roles in life, as a husband, father, friend, pilgrim, adventurer, artist and filmmaker. Also, time is fleeting. I want to thank my dear friends and family who have contributed to the enrichment of my life, what a gift it is to be surrounded by the beauty of good people. Thank you Kira for passing along this opportunity:)

2015 Future of StoryTelling Summit Speaker: Beau Lotto Neuroscientist & Founder, Lottolab Apply to attend: www.fost.org Beau Lotto’s research into perception has shown that we don’t see the real world—just our version of it. It’s a version we’ve evolved to perceive, where shadows, shapes, and even how we understand time are meanings we ascribe to what we’re seeing. Our senses are telling us stories about the world—and we can control those stories to change our perceptions and ourselves. Digital technology that’s purely virtual can’t totally engage with our perceptions, but when it augments the physical reality we evolved in, that’s when we can truly occupy the space between the real world and what we want it to be.
