After a visit to a doctor that deems the classic methods of procreation impossible, the despairing protagonists switch focus to a child-resembling tree stump found in the garden. The monstrosity comes to life and its insatiable appetite gradually increases to the point where porridge and breast milk just won’t do…

In the fall of 2015, while mindlessly thumbing through my Instagram feed, I stumbled across three images Michael Stevenson posted to his account. It was three white boxes, with the caption, “STARTING. FROM. SCRATCH.” I was intrigued, and after meeting up to chat about what prompted those posts, we embarked on a journey of trying to both understand and maybe even capture the moment. What follows is a film that has continued to morph and grow as realities changed before our very eyes. The film we set out to make is very different than the film you see here. I’m incredibly grateful to Mike, for allowing me to poke around a very personal and meaningful moment in his life, and for his unflinching honesty about something we don’t usually talk about in terms other than heroic. Also - thanks to Jared Hogan, whose “Films About Numbers” project was the intended point of distribution. But the story had other plans and timelines. Not many people have heard of Daniel Fleury. He isn’t really part of a riding scene and he doesn’t seem overly concerned with upping his Instagram rep. If you expected his feed to be a run of extreme bike shots, you’d be surprised to find a view on the world based on natural beauty with a series of images that present a creative view on everyday things like foliage, ocean and…sky. Daniel grew up in circumstances more likely to guide him into team sports than inspire an endeavor in bikes, but something drew him into the woods where he spent the better part of two years hand building a massive cluster of jumps known as ‘Laguna’. A line with features that reach for the tree tops and a coastal view that delivers breathtaking sunsets daily. The new album from Steven Wilson “4 ½” is OUT NOW, so titled because it forms an interim release between Steven’s recently released fourth album Hand. Cannot. Erase. and the next studio album. CD: http://bit.ly/29mrIBz Vinyl: http://bit.ly/292oip2 Blu-Ray: http://bit.ly/29mrV7t Digital: http://bit.ly/292ozIm Steven Wilson has launched the stunning animated video for ‘Routine’. The hugely emotive track featuring a beautiful guest vocal performance by Ninet Tayeb is taken from his latest album Hand. Cannot. Erase. Steven Wilson “Amongst the hundreds of songs I have written over the years Routine has a very special place. It’s a deeply sad story of loss and denial, but at its conclusion the clouds lift and there is acceptance at least. Having worked with her on 3 previous videos, I knew as soon as I wrote it that it was perfect for Jess to do something amazing with. Even then nothing prepared me for the organic beauty and power of the film she made, a painstaking labour of love that took her months to produce. When we play the song live I look out into the audience and see people swept away with emotion at the combination of music and animation. To find poetry and beauty in sadness is a wonderful thing I think.” Director Jess Cope of Owlhouse Studios (http://bit.ly/29mrslM) talks about working with Steven Wilson and the creation of the ‘Routine’ video “Routine is the forth film that Owl House Studio has made in collaboration with Steven Wilson and the biggest one yet. The story centres on a woman dealing with the tragic loss of her family and the routine she creates for herself to try and cope. The themes in Steven’s music are often quite morbid and macabre and when we heard Routine for the first time, Tom Kaye (Writer/Producer) and I knew the story had to be really strong, to do justice to the music. Working with Steven is always a fantastic experience for us creatively. In the early stages, Steven often has a strong concept in mind for a song or album, but allows us the creative freedom to add our own style and ideas to it. Our use of traditional animation and the painstaking efforts of the whole Owl House Studios team, have resulted in a film with a level of beauty and detail not previously achieved by the studio – at the same time it is simple enough that the music always drives the story. We’re so pleased with the look of the puppet and sets, and especially the level of detail Alison Cross (Art Director/Prop Maker) managed to get into the props. This project also saw us working with Adam Oehlers (Concept Artist) for the first time and he was able to capture the tone from our script so perfectly. Working with such a diverse team and amazingly talented animators, we were able to bring this woman’s world to life. I’m proud of all the films we’ve made with Steven Wilson, but I’m especially fond of ‘Routine’. The response we’ve received has been phenomenal. It’s incredibly humbling to see that something we’ve helped create has touched so many people and reduced a good number of them to tears… It’s an extraordinary and ironic satisfaction! Hand. Cannot. Erase. the fourth solo album from the four-time Grammy nominee, multi-instrumentalist and producer has received universal praise from the media and fans alike rewarding Steven Wilson his highest chart positions worldwide including UK #13 ,Germany # 3, Netherlands #2, USA – #39 Billboard Top 200, Canada #24 & Finland #4 national album charts. Steven Wilson was, recently, awarded an unprecedented 3 PROG Magazine Awards for Hand. Cannot. Erase. including Best Album, Commercial Breakthrough, and Boxset Design alongside a nomination for Classic Rock Magazine’s Album Of The Year. With sold out shows around the world including his 2 recent performances at London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall Steven Wilson will be continuing to tour Hand. Cannot. Erase. starting in Germany on January 12th, the 2016 European tour takes Steven to Belgium, Holland, UK, France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Hungary, Italy and Greece. A young cyclist Sam tries hard to make peace with his younger brother Alex who suffers from an unknown illness. This is my last film at CalArts! Growing up with an older sister with pretty severe OCD, I faced difficulties when it came to hanging out with friends, and focusing on my dreams. My whole family was influenced by her illness and it was something that was very hard to discuss about. I always had mixed feelings about my sister because I understood that she was also struggling with her problems, but at the same time I just felt so unfair how everything had to revolve around her. It’s a story I always wanted to tell. I had a good experience making it! Watch other films made by my classmates: http://bit.ly/1XhAGDX

In theaters & On Demand worldwide 6/17! After Steven Spielberg’s classic Raiders of the Lost Ark was released 35 years ago, three 11-year-old boys from Mississippi set out on what would become a 7-year-long labor of love and tribute to their favorite film: a faithful, shot-for-shot adaptation of the action adventure film. They finished every scene…except one; the film’s explosive airplane set piece. Over two decades later, the trio reunited with the original cast members from their childhood in order to complete their masterpiece. Featuring interviews with John Rhys Davies, Eli Roth and more, RAIDERS!: THE STORY OF THE GREATEST FAN FILM EVER MADE is just that: the story of this long-gestating project’s culmination, chronicling the friends’ dedication to their artistic vision—mixed in with some movie magic—to create a personal, epic love letter to a true modern classic.

“My Brother” is a personal tribute to the silent contributions of migrant workers globally. I grew up in the island city-state of Singapore, where encounters with migrants of countries as diverse as Bangladesh, Myanmar, China and the Philippines are part of everyday living. Many of them take on jobs that are considered by the larger public to be menial in nature. Sometimes, the differences in our cultures and socioeconomic statuses cause social friction. When we allow this to be left unchecked, it can evolve into darker displays of xenophobic behavior. But the inability to see past differences is not just a local issue; it is an increasingly global one. From where I am now in the United States, I am beginning to see how irresponsible political rhetoric, among other factors, influences previously big-hearted populations, populations which embraced – indeed championed – diversity. My response to this wave of sentiments is inspired by a quote I came across recently, attributed to the French composer Claude Debussy: music is the silence between the notes. The project aims to recognize the silent migrant workers’ contributions to our communities and celebrate their music between our notes. “My Brother” is thus a metaphor for the thousands of underappreciated migrant workers we come across during our daily commute. I believe that bridges are built on bricks of commonalities and so the focus of this project is on the spaces of our shared humanity – school, families and personal dreams. After viewing the video, it is my personal hope that you make my brother, your brother too. _____________________________________________ We are not affiliated to any of the listed organizations, but to support migrant worker causes, do visit the link below: http://bit.ly/28YwapU Created as my Senior project at Savannah College of Art and Design (B.F.A Motion Media Design 2016). _____________________________________________ CREDITS: Directed by Audrey Yeo Written by Andrew Yeo Illustrated and animated by Audrey Yeo PROFESSOR: Steven Mark Day ADDITIONAL DESIGN: Jigyu Yoon Yeojin Shin ADDITIONAL CEL: Eleena Bakrie Gabrielle Dolbey Khoo Siew May 3D SUPPORT: Roy Kang SOUND DESIGN: Redhorse Studio MUSIC: Paul Suite VOICE: Audrey Yeo Manish Dongardive VOICE EDITING: Daniel Wiedenmann

Bad Company is a story shot in the brick factories of Kathmandu, Nepal. Factories in which scores of children as young as 5 are sent to work, often as labourers and as donkey boys (shepherds) in order to pay off gambling debts borne by drunk uncles and fathers or to earn money for the very basics of life, food and water. Once there they become bonded and institutionalised for years to come. The kilns envelop them physically and emotionally as bodies are broken and dreams dashed. It is here they will grow into men. However, what kind of men is moot as nuture in the kilns is one of a lawless, peerless underworld in which children not only witness but also feel the wrongs done to their elders as the psychology and the pain inflicted on others is passed down the line to them, weak and defenceless as they are. In turn they learn how to inflict pain on to a body even less powerful, the animals themselves.

A documentary about my childhood home, all childhood homes and the past lives of old buildings. Written and Directed by Casimir Nozkowski (casimirnozkowski.com) Narrated by Casimir Nozkowski, Thomas Nozkowski, Joyce Robins Filmed and Edited by Casimir Nozkowski Music by Alexander Strung Re-Recording Engineering by Tod Chapman Color Timing by Eyal Dimant I grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in a building that was once a synagogue, a whiskey still, a raincoat factory and when I was born there, a studio for my artist parents. They moved in after they got married in 1967 and rented the top two floors for 45 years from another family. In 2012, the 130-year-old building was sold by that family and my parents moved out. But before they did, I filmed the hell out of it. And I realized I shared history with countless people who had lived or worked in this old building over two centuries. I filmed the neighborhood I grew up in and saw how rare old buildings with shared histories were becoming. My documentary is about my childhood home and how much of the past you could still see in it when we left. It’s about the development of a neighborhood a lot of lives have passed through and whether you can protect that legacy while still making room for new lives and new memories. In making my movie, I tried to follow some advice my mom gave me: “Don’t make a movie about moving out. Make it about how great it was to live here.” I like that sentiment but I couldn’t help wondering what was going to happen next to the old building I grew up in. - Casimir Nozkowski 2012: New York Times article about my family’s time at 70 Hester Street: http://nyti.ms/28JVGjK 2013: CSC Landscape Holdings (the new owner) renovates 70 Hester Street http://bit.ly/28JgeK9 2015: 70 Hester Street goes back on the market http://bit.ly/28JVDo8 2016: 70 Hester Street is sold again http://bit.ly/28Jgf0K 70 Hester Street (the movie) premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival 2014 Other festivals include: Rooftop Films, Vassar Filmfest, Atlanta Jewish Film Festival, Boston Jewish Festival, Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival, Kansas City Jewish Film Festival, San Francisco Jewish Film Festival, Toronto Jewish Film Festival, Twin Cities Jewish Film Festival, Athens Jewish Film Festival, Hartford Jewish Film Festival and was a finalist at the Robinson International Short Film Competition

http://bit.ly/1tzaB8F In 2008 British Championship rally driver, Nick Rowland, walked away from the sport to pursue a career as a film director. However his passion for the sport remained a consistent in his life and it was inevitable that he would bring this remarkable sport to the big screen. In the history of cinema, there has never been a film made about rally driving and it was going to take someone with the same tenacity found within rally drivers to try. Group B is Rowland’s first test at the genre. Despite its A-Level cast and strong production value, Group B was made at the National Film and Television School in London, UK. It was Rowland’s graduation project and was made on the allotted budget of £14,000. Since its premiere at the Melbourne International Film Festival, Group B has screened at more than a dozen festivals around the world and was nominated for a Student Oscar as well as won the Royal Television Society’s Student Award for Best Post Graduate Fiction. The filmmakers hope that the film’s success might lead to a future feature.

From the floral-covered steps of City Hall to the sweat-drenched dancefloor of Precinct DTLA, we Angelenos stood together (over 2,000 in fact) to honor the members of our fellow LGBTQIA family in Orlando whose lives were cut senselessly short over the weekend. The range of mourning (some choosing silence, others spoken word and a few using dance) from all walks of life wholeheartedly touched me. In fact, the bittersweet beauty of it all riveted me so much I decided to share some of my experience via video. “We are a gentle angry people” indeed. We have made our visibility known in numbers as we mourn, but now let’s make sure to keep that momentum as we act (in honor of those who are no longer able to fight). What does an art gallery do for an artist? What fuels the global expansion of galleries like Gagosian and White Cube? And how has the internet affected the way galleries do business? In the second installment of “The Art Market Series (in Four Parts),” we look at the complex ecosystem of commercial galleries to probe these questions—and get to the root of how galleries effectively steward artists’ careers, promote their work, and protect their markets. Gallerists, artists, and art-world influencers like Amalia Dayan, Daniella Luxembourg, Dominique Lévy, Michele Maccarone, Elmgreen & Dragset, Josh Baer, Stefan Simchowitz, and Sarah Thornton provide their insights. Galleries is the second installment of a four-part documentary series, preceded by Auctions and followed by Patrons and Art Fairs. Together, the four segments tell a comprehensive story about the art market’s history and cultural influence, providing an approachable yet nuanced introduction to a extraordinary subject. Thomas Weller, a.k.a. “The San Diego Highwayman” has been rescuing people stranded on the side of the road for 48 years. When he was 16 years old, he drove his car into a ditch. A man came along and rescued him, asking only that Thomas pay it forward one day. Since that time, Weller has rescued thousands of people who were stranded in one way or another. Weller hands them a card that says “You don’t owe me a thing. I’ve been there too. Someone once helped me out, just the way I’m helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here’s what you do: don’t let the chain of love end with you. Back in August of 2011, Weller’s famous rescue car “Beulah” was totalled during a rescue. The remains of his prized car still sit in his back yard. Weller simply can’t afford to repair the car but has dreams of getting her back on the road while he’s still able to help others. About the Project: http://bit.ly/1ZRO3K8 While I’m Here | The Legacy Project is a series of videos that profile living legacies while they’re still doing what they do best … turning life into legacy. I decided to start this project after missing out on the chance to tell the story of a man from my hometown who dedicated his life to helping others. That man’s name was Frank Dymock. For years, Frank opened his garage to the public and sharpened skates free of charge. He wouldn’t accept a dime. He was an icon in the place where I grew up, and I always wanted to tell his story while he was still here. Regretfully, I let time pass, and Frank passed away before I had the chance to tell his story. This project is dedicated to him and to countless others who live selflessly and truly leave a legacy, forever impacting the lives of the people lucky enough to cross their paths. This project is 100 per cent a passion project. It’s self funded and something I wanted to do to pay it forward to people like Frank and Thomas (The San Diego Highwayman) who is profiled in this first film. The crew and I have donated our time and personal expense to make this first film happen, and I am truly grateful that we were able to do so. Special Thanks: A very special thanks to Thomas and his wife Patti, who spent so much time with us and opened their doors to allow us to help tell this special story. Virtual reality, 360-degree videos, social networks, video games that look like movies and movies that resemble video games: I think that most of the entertainment`s world nowadays has become monstrous and it is no longer just eyes` illusion, but often illusion of the mind. I do not know about you but personally, among all these innovation`s turbines, I find myself still attracted by ancient methods and tools which continue to fascinate me. Some time ago I came across a phenakistoscope (also spelled as phenakistiscope or phenakitiscope or phantasmascope or phantascope), an antique optical instrument that displays animated images (practically current animated gif) invented in 1832 by Joseph Plateau. I then found some scans of these circles on the Internet and I began to digitally animate them. After a few attempts, I started to combine these animations trying to create something original and unpublished. Eventually, in order to stay on, I created a stop motion with paper toys from nineteenth-century that open and close the video. The music was carefully crafted by Al-Maranca. The result of all this work is called “L'illusion de Joseph” in honour of Joseph Plateau, inventor of phenakistoscope. Buona visione.

Once Upon an Artist is a documentary series that narrates the experiences of the artists from a philosophical and poetic view. Each chapter is an interpretation of their work from a different approach. We use the tool of visual metaphor to redraw what our artists tell about their work. All during their work’s process. In Chapter One, the sculptor Rubén Fuentes tells us how hard was to create a 1’5 meter sculpture made of compact quartz. We follow him throughout his inspirational journey. ************************************************************************** “For a sculptor the material is anything that can be used to generate an object. It may be light, vacuum… Every idea needs a material and each material is a path with different landscapes. I start working at 7… until I drop. Working alone is hard, if you don’t enjoy what you do, you may look for another job Experience is circular, what you learn at first always comes back, and once you complete the circle, you fill the bag of new techniques. When an idea is born inside my head, it is in darkness, nobody can see it. Then I transfer it to a paper, I bring it to light, what lets me show it and see other’s reactions. Materials are the thread where ideas are created. All materials are noble but some of them give different sensations. Some colors are chosen for an emotional affinity. This piece has been designed to be touched. For me, sculpture today can be a way of communicating, a passion, and my way of life to create is to live, in an intense way. Maybe we’re all creators… Even unconsciously” ************************************************************************** Concept & Direction by Marc Guardiola and Pepe Ábalos Cinematography by Marc Guardiola Production Design by Nadia Montero Music by Papu Sebastián Sound Design by Pepe Ábalos Visual Effects by Marc Guardiola Shot on Sony FS700 + Odyssey 7Q Plus + Zeiss Lenses

About the Work WOW has produced a 4K battle movie that personifies 3D animation software, “Max Man & Maya Man.” The special movie in conjunction with the announcement of the release of new versions of 3D animation software packages “Autodesk 3ds Max®” and “Autodesk Maya®.” This film features a battle scene between robots that personify the unique features of each software package, “Max Man” and “Maya Man.” WOW was in charge of planning, character design, and movie creation. Autodesk’s special site, the 3D model data for the two characters in the film, “Max Man” and “Maya Man” are made available free of charge for use within the software applications. Also, by providing free trial versions of the software packages and an environment that makes it easily accessible, they hope to spark an interest in VFX among new users and the younger generation. They plan to release 3D print data for Max Man and Maya Man, so it will be easy to make 3D prints of the characters. Staff Director / Designer:Tomoya Kimpara Music:Tokuro Oka Producer:Hiroshi Takahashi, Shinichi Saeki

Daylight wanes as sky becomes heavy. Isobars compress and warp; cross-sectioned onions on the nightly news. The coast awakens, transformed from the doldrums of summer. Warmth; a flickering memory, like those drawn upon for favourable conditions at half-forgotten spots. The ocean roars, resuming it’s age-old attack on the coastline in a relentless barrage of storm fronts. And so the hunt begins, chasing the nooks hidden from wind and seas. Schedule revolves around brief opportunities, better described as optimistic hunches. A goading carrot dangled, and ever so occasionally within reach. Winter chasing shapes on the fringes of the North Atlantic. A collections of moments captured along the way. Mar.

Kumiko becomes obsessed with a mysterious, battered VHS tape of a popular film she’s mistaken for a documentary, fixating on a scene where a suitcase of stolen cash is buried in the desolate, frozen landscape of North Dakota. Believing this treasure to be real, she leaves behind Tokyo and her beloved rabbit Bunzo to recover it – and finds herself on a dangerous adventure unlike anything she’s seen in the movies.

I work as the filmmaker for Found Sound Nation, a Brooklyn based collective of musicians and artists who use music as a tool to help build strong, just, healthy communities. This is a short film about one of our projects; OneBeat Istanbul. In the spring of 2016 we worked with a group of Kurdish, Syrian and Turkish musicians in the city of Istanbul. Based out of a decommissioned energy plant in the centre of the city and over the course of 2 weeks, we organised public street studios, music workshops with youth groups, we worked with institutions helping blind children and those fleeing conflict, and recorded new music in a variety of spaces around the city; all culminating in a final showcase. This film is a short document of the work that we did, the music we shared; the sounds of the city and of those involved in the program. OneBeat grew out of a notion that musical collaboration is a uniquely powerful way to connect people across political and cultural barriers, which can in turn cultivate an international network of sound makers who can make a powerful impact on their local and global communities. How do we choose to mix influences when dealing with a medium as new as CG animation ? From live action independent movies to Japanese anime, CG animation is still a new form of media trying to find its own style, to differentiate itself from traditional cartoon. This short is a playful attempt at bringing those influences together, from the point of view of the characters themselves. Trough their interrogations, we ask ourselves if there is a different path to the way we treat animation today. This is a short movie directed by Valere Amirault and done by the people at Mecanique Generale.
