Bio-inspire A/V Dome Performance IAIA | Institute of American Indian Arts in New Mexico, USA, 2015 Fiske Planetarium - University of Colorado Boulder in Colorado, USA, 2015 BioInspire is an A/V dome performance which has screened in the Institute of American Indian Arts(New Mexico, USA) and Fiske Planetarium - University of Colorado Boulder(Colorado, USA). Artificial neural networks(ANNs), a largely used method in machine learning and cognitive science, are inspired by the biological neural networks, namely the neural system of the animals. The ANNs are composed of several nodes, layers and connections which simulate to some extent the message exchange and processing through a biological neural network. In fact, ANNs tries to find an approximate functions that evaluate all the inputs in order to give a meaningful output concerning the data. Each function is specific to the learned data according to which the form of the ANN is shaped. So, ANN adapt itself to learn from the data, to mine it; it then turns into a generic processing model that evaluates, classify, categorize the inputs, likewise our brain, neurons and synapses. As the quantity of layers, nodes and connections in an artificial neural network increase, the structure gets more complex. Getting the inspiration from the structure of an ANN, our aim is to redefine the complexity of a neural network using abstract objects and sound referring to it’s natural form. FAIK - ‘Saying bye was a mistake’ The story of a guy who regrets the choices he made. He keeps looking back on an unfilled relationship he had with a woman. Waves symbolize the tempestuous emotions, whereas the hot air balloon represents the memories. Finally, the paint reflects time which passes and separates them from each other. It’s a video with double exposure (filmed in Istanbul and Cappadokia), put on backgrounds with paint mixed in milk and dishwashing liquid. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 1st E.P 'SHARR MOUNTAINS’ available 10th of February 2016 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Site web : www.faik.fr Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1nsSOwK Instagram: http://bit.ly/1ZLEI5i Twitter: http://twitter.com/musicfaik Soundcloud : http://bit.ly/1nsSMoJ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Director: Thomas Blanchard Lighting Technician : Maud Regnault (http://bit.ly/1ZLEI5l) Actresses : Defne Güvenç Neylan Cankurtaran Actors: Faik Şardağ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - http://bit.ly/1MxXy9r - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -BLENDED- http://bit.ly/1ZLEI5mwww.faik.fr Facebook: http://on.fb.me/1nsSOwK Instagram: http://bit.ly/1ZLEI5i Twitter: http://twitter.com/musicfaik Soundcloud : http://bit.ly/1nsSMoJ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Director: Thomas Blanchard Lighting Technician : Maud Regnault (http://bit.ly/1ZLEI5l) Actresses : Defne Güvenç Neylan Cankurtaran Actors: Faik Şardağ - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - http://bit.ly/1MxXy9r - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -BLENDED- http://bit.ly/1ZLEI5m

The song and title inspired me to create a narrative about the Y generation, about how people can become desperate about creating the perfect piece of work, the ultimate fulfillment in the eyes of others. The obsession of a promised, expected, fulfilling life. I like to think that this video is about how this generation has been told repeatedly by their parents how special of a person they are. I wanted to create a ridiculous, sadly desperate and manipulative character that would push this obsession to the limits, which is using death as an art performance in order to ultimately be respected in the eyes of others. An animated short film, narrated by two asylum-seeking men detained in Australia’s Manus Island Offshore Processing Centre, recounting the dangerous journeys that brought them to the island and their memories of the riot that erupted in 2014. —————————————- In July 2013, the Australian Government introduced a controversial immigration policy, transferring asylum seekers arriving by boat to remote offshore detention centres on foreign Pacific islands. Seven months later, the Manus Island centre erupted in violence when police and guards put down protests with sticks, machetes and guns, and 23 year-old asylum seeker Reza Barati was killed. We spoke to Behrouz and Omar, who are currently detained on Manus Island. This film contains recordings of these conversations. ——————————————————————————— AWARDS AND SCREENINGS: WINNER: Best Short Documentary, Melbourne International Film Festival 2015 NOMINATED: Best Animation, Raindance 2015 SPECIAL RECOGNITION FOR ANIMATION: San Francisco International Short Film Festival 2015 SHORT DOCUMENTARY COMPETITION: Flickerfest 2015 OFFICIAL SELECTION: Palm Springs Shorts Fest 2015 OFFICIAL SELECTION: British Animation Film Festival 2015 OFFICIAL SELECTION: Interfilm, Berlin 2015 ——————————————————————————— CREDITS Directed and Produced by Lukas Schrank Character Artwork by Luke Bicevskis Executive producers Carly Bojadziski | Gilbert Caluya | Neil Holden | Peter Murphy | Kevin Roberts | Lucy Best 2D Character animation Lukas Schrank | Marisa Rossi Matte painter Himashis Karmakar 3D character rigging and animation Elmer Frihdson Ona | Melvin Riego 3D face modelling Edgar Marocsek Production Design Lukas Schrank Music Composed by Ian King Sound design and mix by Nick Ryder at Bamboo Audio Colourist Daniel Stonehouse at Crayon Creative consultant Peter Savieri Editor Chris Ward Fixer Hossein Babaahmadi Copywriter Emma Koster Publicists Soraya Dean Miguel Oyarbide Music ‘Gnossienes 1’ Written by Erik Satie Performed by Carl Banner

DEVIL MAKES WORK is a visually dark and sinister short film illustrating the devil’s twisted view of humanity; our hopes and dreams, life, love and struggle together with the sacrifices we make for success. Infinity’ is an immersive environment project by Refik Anadol. Project is an integral part of artist’s ongoing ‘Temporary Immersive Environment Experiments’ which is a research on audio/visual installations by using the state called immersion which is the state of consciousness where an immersant’s awareness of physical self is transformed by being surrounded in an engrossing environment; often artificial, creating a perception of presence in a non-physical world. In this project ‘infinity’ chosen as a concept,a radical effort to deconstruct the framework of this illusory space and transgress the normal boundaries of the viewing experience to set out to transform the conventional flat cinema projection screen into a three dimensional kinetic and architectonic space of visualisation by using contemporary algorithms. Light is the major element in the experiment, used to blur and interconnect the boundaries between the two realms actual/fictional and physical/virtual. It signifies the threshold between the simulacrum space created by the projection technology, and the physical space where the viewer stands. The experiments will discuss the inherent spatial qualities of immersive virtual environments and their effect on the embodied person. Through the presented framework, the experiments intends to question the relativity of perception and how it informs the apprehension of our surroundings. Rather than approaching the medium as a means of escape into some disembodied techno-utopian fantasy, projects sees itself as a means of return, i.e. facilitating a temporary release from our habitual perceptions and culturally biased assumptions about being in the world, to enable us, however momentarily, to perceive ourselves and the world around us freshly. Room size: 4M x 4M x 4M Medium: Four channel Audio/Visual Installation running on custom software. Exhibition at Artnivo’s ’40 Meters 4 Walls 8 Cubes’ in collaboration with Istanbul Biennial at Zorlu Performing Art Center.
