@RobertClarkphoto Beetles are by far the largest order of insects, with 350,000–400,000 species, making up about 40% of all insect species described, and about 30% of all animals. The classification at a bit resolved, with about about 500 families. Scientist estimates between 850,000–4,000,000 species proposed which means that 70–95% of all beetle species remain undescribed. For example, the known beetle diversity of Australia is estimated at 23,000 species in 3265 genera and 121 families. While other predictions show there could be as many as 28,000 species in North America, including those currently undescribed, meaning the little studied Australian beetle fauna's true diversity could vary from 80,000 to 100,000. Although we often think of beetles as garden pests or garden protectors, many cultures use parts of dazzling, colorful beetles as prized jewelry. Just as structural color is responsible for the beautiful blue of Morpho butterflies, it is also responsible for the glistening iridescent colors of many tropical beetles. The outermost surface, of iridescent beetles is made of many stacks of slanting, plate-like layers, which are oriented in different directions. The layers bend, and then reflect the incoming light in the same way as the ridges of iridescent butterfly and moth scales. They produce structural colors by interference in the same way as butterfly w1ngs do. A layer of pigment below the refractive plates of beetles and the ridges of iridescent butterfly scales enhances the effect of the iridescence. In some species, thecolorful reflection diffraction grating to cause iridescence. The exact mechanism of the structural color for many species is an open topic of research. #evolution #darwin #thephotosociety by natgeo

A new film in our maker series. Ben Harris is a traditional wooden boat builder based in Cornwall, UK. This film documents Ben Harris’ love of wood work and boat building, how he acquired his skills, and how incredible it is to be able to take something that you’ve built with your own hands out onto the water and sail it across the sea. Who is Ben Harris? Ben has always loved wood. His mother said that his first word was ‘log’. He has been working with wood throughout the UK since the age of 15. First as an assistant to a cabinet maker, where he started by sharpening the tools and clearing up. He then developed his skills in furniture making and his passion for wood and forestry by working in broadleaf woodlands. Later he tuned his skills in bespoke oak-framed carpentry and went on to establish a sawmill and oak framing business in Scotland, sourcing timber from the local estates. In 2005 Ben moved to Cornwall to study boatbuilding. He has been building boats and sailing them ever since. Shooting from timber to tide We spent three days with Ben, staying with him in the idyllic handbuilt wooden cabin he lives in, in Constantine, Cornwall. When we arrived Wednesday, late afternoon, the plan was to make pumpkin soup and couldn’t believe our luck when we discovered the open fire cooking area in the garden. Within an hour after arriving we were already shooting some lovely material. The next day we covered the area around the house, the two workshops, the woods and recorded the voice-over. The real treat came on Friday morning when we took his self-built sailing yacht Alva out on Falmouth’s waters. First we covered the beautiful yacht from a motor boat with skipper Matthew Dale and dog Ruben, before we stepped on board ourselves and got close to the action. What a great experience. What happens when four like-minded adventurers head into one of the world’s wildest mountain ranges with nothing but their mountain bikes and enough food to survive for 10 days? The answer? What doesn’t happen? Terrifying lightning storms. Raging-river crossings. Snow-covered glacial pass traverses. Mind-melting descents. Constant fights with vicious dogs. Tense encounters with over-zealous border-patrol guards. All of the above were just another day following “The Trail to Kazbegi,” a self-supported mountain-bike mission through the highest reaches of the Caucasus Mountains in the former Soviet Republic of Georgia. Our four-man team—adventure filmmaker Joey Schusler, Bike magazine editor Brice Minnigh, photographer Ross Measures and mountain man Sam Seward—spent half of June 2015 exploring the crown jewels of the Georgian High Caucasus on a feature assignment for Bike. Along the way our crew overcame countless obstacles and experienced some of the most spectacular scenery and trails they had ever encountered. They also were treated to the unparalleled hospitality of the Georgian people and the benign indifference of the elements on their quest to reach the magnificent Mount Kazbek. In the process, they cemented lasting friendships and proved, yet again, that life is simply better in the mountains. Film: Robert Seidel _ www.robertseidel.com Music: Nikolai von Sallwitz _ www.vonsallwitz.com Please choose 1080P for playback to see the film in full quality! The nine virtual sculptures underlying vitreous resulted from experimental setups by Robert Seidel for generating three-dimensional clusters of fibrous refractions, as well as the gravitational lensing of different volumetric and chromatic densities. Singular elements gravitate towards each other, accumulating in a gigantic sculptural system, where each entity exists with its own visual axis and vanishing point. The impalpable luminous formations create prismatic interactions between the ridges and plateaux of the main colours floating in front of the infinite violet background. The multilayered, continuously expanding and decaying system is driven by semi-chaotic processes with localized impulses and their speculative chain reactions. In the spectrum of these possible movements, each singular sculpture becomes an integral component of the whole pictorial force-field. In its asymmetrical orchestration and multitude of spatial-temporal interactions, the abstract-organic images are close in appearance to the concepts of “moving paintings” and “living sculptures” Seidel develops for more than a decade now. Originally vitreous was conceived as a media façade artwork of 80 × 24 × 14 Meters (Target City Lights, Minneapolis, USA, 2012). It later developed in a large-scale projection of 4 × 14 Meters (German Filmmuseum, Frankfurt, Germany, 2015). The short film released in December 2015 features a music score exclusively composed by Nikolai von Sallwitz.

Watch Down To Start A Riot, A Vic Mensa Documentary For our first video cover story, The FADER visits the SAVEMONEY rapper at home in Chicago: http://bit.ly/1QP0qDY Last May, The FADER spent a week with the rapper Vic Mensa in Chicago shooting our first video cover story, Down To Start A Riot. Mensa had recently joined Kanye West on stage at the BRIT Awards and was, along with the rest of his SAVEMONEY crew, teetering on the edge of breaking out in a major way. As Mensa’s go-to producer and friend-since-grammar-school Stefan Ponce recalls, “He really did what he always knew he was going to do. Like, damn, this guy is really about to change his life.” Citing the versatility of SAVEMONEY’s sound and the breadth of their projects, the documentary’s director Aaron Brown says that, “It was cool to see what [Mensa and the SAVEMONEY guys] were doing, because they were doing something that has a lot more dimension.” Brown spent time with Vic in the studio, where there was work to be done and fun to be had; followed him through the streets of Hyde Park, where he recalls seeing the body of a slain classmate as a teenager and where he is now stopped by admirers on the street; and he filmed him freestyling on a subway platform. “I had the idea of trying to explore the genre of documentary, just trying to pick the pieces apart of a rapper,” Brown says of the dramatic subway station session. “I was thinking of an acapella verse as a voiceover in a documentary, that’s what it was. Just trying to freshen it up. We’ve all seen a bunch of rap videos and a bunch of documentaries, so it was asking, how can we think about them as one thing.” With nearly one hundred issues behind us, we are proud to present our first video cover story Down To Start A Riot featuring Vic Mensa and SAVEMONEY. directed by Pussykrew concept by Sevdaliza and Pussykrew produced by Pussykrew MUA Celine Bernaerts music produced by Mucky co-produced by Sevdaliza keys by Joel Dieleman For her latest interdisciplinary project “That Other Girl”, Sevdaliza teamed up with Pussykrew discovering their mutual passion and corresponding references for 3D technology. In this video, Sevdaliza has fallen victim to her own creation of a safe vacuum. Submissive to deep-rooted emotions and assumptions, Sevdaliza finds herself imprisoned in her own paintings and sculptures. Can she remain unflawed? She has become nothing more than a statue surrounded by surreal environments. Identity becomes a game, however she remains in control of the computed bodies. She breaks the stereotypes of gender roles and constructs to manifest a different notion of cyborgian identity. Sevdaliza’s husky vocals float over a mechanical bed that excites masculine energy and sexual adrenaline. As the song continues, a rhythmic tension builds slowly into a chaotic climax. Every retribution becomes more intense and personal, yet she isn’t able to break from that obscure statue of a woman. soundcloud: http://bit.ly/1LOBID2 spotify: http://spoti.fi/1KXVqXo website: http://bit.ly/1JsCS1h facebook: http://on.fb.me/1NJjrHP supported by Foxrender Farm http://bit.ly/1J9gHxq supported by Fuel 3D http://bit.ly/1IS5sOT supported by Zahra Reijs http://bit.ly/1IS5uGs supported by Mucky http://www.mucky.nl About Pussykrew http://bit.ly/1J9gGtb http://on.fb.me/1IS5sOU http://bit.ly/1J9gHxr

“Nathan Millward gives a captivating insight into his motives for riding 35,000 miles from Sydney to Alaska on a 105cc Aussie post bike. If you’ve ever wondered what possesses some people to spend a life travelling the globe on two wheels, you’ll need to look hard to find a better – and more honest – explanation than this.” -VisorDown.com Directed by Fraser Byrne @fraserbyrne.com Hit up Nathan on Instagram and tell him we sent you! @nathanthepostman - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - http://bit.ly/1lEhTE2 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - About: In 2009, Brit Nathan Millward was enjoying life working in a cafe in Sydney, but the good times were cut short after his Visa extension was denied and he was given 3 days to pack up his life in Australia and exit the country. Rather than booking a flight back to the UK, he made the bold decision to hit the road and ride home. He packed his world belongings into a box, strapped it to the back of his trusty 105cc Honda postman’s bike (max speed 40mph) and embarked on the ride of his life. He set off with no Visas in place, no mechanical knowledge and wasn’t even sure if his cash would stretch the 23,000 mile ride home … Little did Nathan know as he rode away from the Sydney Opera House that morning, he was at the start of a grand journey that would take him further than he ever could have imagined. A journey not just of epic proportions, but one that would take him right to the extremities of personal discovery and ultimately, would take him in search of the end of the road. A cross between Miyazaki and Pixar, SOAR is an award-winning 3D animated movie about a young girl who must help a tiny boy pilot fly home before it’s too late. http://on.fb.me/1O0s7uB Soar was created as Alyce Tzue’s thesis project in school. What began as a toil of love by first-time filmmakers ended up catching the eyes of festivals all over the world. Soar is the proud 2015 Gold Winner of the 42nd Student Oscars, Best Student Animation Winner at Palm Springs, Finalist at the Student BAFTAs, and has screened in the Hamptons, St. Louis, Seoul, Austin, and more. The Soar team is beyond grateful for your support. We believe the film’s surprise success is proof of its message: when you put in everything you’ve got, sometimes you achieve more than you ever expected. There are plans to make Soar into a feature length film inspired by the sensibilities of Hayao Miyazaki and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince. A Taller Us, Foxtrott’s debut album is a musical interpretation of life’s monolithic challenges. Together we elaborated on that metaphor for the “Shaky Hands” video. Alongside VFX artist Martha Aguilar we created a vertical climb through various stages of inner turmoil that climaxes into a classic tale of “survival of the fittest”. Set in a quarry 4 hours south of Montreal, Canada, the video further develops the visual language initially explored in the video for previous single Driven. Deep in the wilds of rural Alabama, a spear-hunter proclaims himself the world’s greatest and erects a museum dedicated to his own obsession. In this atmospheric and darkly funny documentary, an offbeat cast of lovers, acolytes, and critics of the megalomaniacal spear-hunter remember his distinctive tactics both for killing and for leaving a legacy. Stormscapes 3 is for those that enjoy the visual aspect of our beautifully unique Blue Marble’s fascinating weather, or those wishing to experience elemental nature in some of its most surreal and chaotic forms. Particularly focusing on severe weather located in the northern high plains region (and adjacent ranges) of the USA. This video showcases a variety of supercells and other rotating storms, spooky night based mesoscale convective systems, atmospheric optics such as rainbows and crepuscular rays, various forms of lightning, and even a rare Shirley Basin, Wyoming tornado. I highly recommend a good set of speakers or headphones. There is a lot of deeper bass in the track, which adds to the overall feel I was going for. You’ll miss out without it. Especially during the transition from day to night. If you suffer from any negative photosensitive reactions to strobing or flashing lights, it might be advisable to skip the night focused lightning sequences of Stormscapes 3. They are…intense…welcome to mother nature’s dance party (it’s even crazier in person). The last two minutes are almost nothing but lightning sequences. Stop watching immediately if it becomes too much for you. If you are interested in the progression of the Stormscapes series, please have a look at the first two. If you’d like to see more of the June 1, 2015 Rapid City supercell (only added 1 quick sequence here), I have a video dedicated to its awesomeness. Probably one of the most beautiful natural phenomena I’ve ever witnessed. http://bit.ly/1lGBOSj - Stormscapes 1 http://bit.ly/1XMGdob - Stormscapes 2 http://bit.ly/1lGBR0m - Rapid City Supercell Track title - Everything Band - Everyone Moves Away http://bit.ly/1XMGdoc http://on.fb.me/1lGBR0n Intro material courtesy of the NOAA-NASA GOES Project. http://go.nasa.gov/1XMGbfT All video material (or any video stills of said material), omitting the GOES imagery, copyright Nicolaus Wegner 2015. http://on.fb.me/21hJMls http://twitter.com/JohnDuncanFilm http://bit.ly/1ljCZ9P Behind the Scenes - http://bit.ly/21hJOKc For my second aerial film, entitled ‘Wild Scotland’, I wanted to showcase some of the wilderness this magnificent country has to offer. From the Highlands and Islands on the west coast to John O’Groats and North Berwick on the east I’ve captured just a fraction of the stunning wilderness which Scotland has to offer. I’ve spent the last few months travelling up and down the country capturing locations, carefully planning my schedule to take advantage of the best light, be that dawn or dusk. Along the way I’ve been lucky to pick up some unexpected shots such as deer near Ardnamurchan and a large group of seals in a bay near John O’ Groats at the very top of the British mainland. I was lucky to experience a prolonged spell of good weather so filming this was a much faster process than for my first aerial film; Beautiful Scotland - vimeo.com/100426447 Making this film involved a series of mini adventures. Hiking up Bidein a'Ghlas Thuill at 3am in the pitch dark, to film the spectacular serrated ridge of An Teallach, and hearing stags roaring in the valleys below is a memory that will stay with me for a very long time. Also filming Bass Rock near North Berwick, which is home is to the world’s largest single rock Gannet colony with some 40,000 pairs of birds, at first light was a real treat. The film was mostly shot on the DJI Inspire 1 and for the more remote locations I used the DJI Phantom 3 which can be packed in a backpack really easily. Big shout out to Drew Gibson (http://twitter.com/drew_the_editor) who has done another magnificent job colour grading this and also to Pete Smith (http://bit.ly/1ljCXim) who created the sound mix. Cheers also to Rob Waugh (http://on.fb.me/21hJOKd) for feeding back throughout the edit and helping suggest locations. http://bit.ly/1I6oG2Y 4K/UHD Version: youtu.be/MozX3qFIkpQ Today I’m privileged to share with you the Finland I got to experience. I’ve witnessed the diversity and immense beauty of this land from the very north all the way to the southern parts, yet every time I set off I’m in awe. Finland never ceases to amaze me, and so, I’m truly honored and blessed to call this country my home. This journey was more than a timelapse project. I could go on and on ecstatically about what I experienced during the 8500 kilometers on the road. As I carried the burden of impending schoolwork, I had to make the most out of my time, while fulfilling my dream. It meant that the three months spent with the project were momentous. I’m thrilled to have experienced Finland’s sublime nature on my travels, yet I’m also moved by being able to touch a great deal of people by doing what I love. I find their appraisal and kindness most humbling and rewarding.¨ I want to thank everyone from my family for playing their part in this project from the very first day I picked up this hobby till today. I’d also like to thank my relatives and friends, especially my cousin and colleague Niko Juntunen. All the clips are available for licensing in 4K resolution. This documentary was made possible by Frank Casares who believed in us and funded the project. We had a small crew of 5 people and shot on a RED epic, RED dragon, 5D Mark ii and the Inspire Copter. The biggest challenge was the slow motion skydiving scene which was filmed by Craig O’Brien. Those were shot on the RED dragon at 200 fps. Due to wind, we only had 4 jumps to make it happen but Craig and skydivers Brad Patterson and Dalten Kadow nailed it. Currently we’re searching for the next great story to tell. We encourage people to reach out to us if they have one or know somebody who does. Thanks for watching! “65 is the average age of farmers, and there are not enough young farmers to replace them. How did we get here?”* In the summer of 2015, Eva Verbeeck asked me to join her on a trip throughout the Pacific Northwest to produce a short film on young farmers that would accompany her photo story for a variety of publications. Having spent much time WWOOFing on organic farms, I knew the importance of this mission. So we loaded our iPods with old bluegrass music and set off in a 1990 Nissan truck, heading from Portland to British Columbia. We offered our labor in exchange for room and board at the farms that we made it to. This film is an attempt to express some of the thoughts and feelings of the young farmers that we stayed with. Hopefully a little bit of justice was done for all the young farmers out there. Infinite gratitude to all of the farms that hosted us this summer and kept us filled with organic produce and warmth: - Earth Candy Farm (http://on.fb.me/1O1t0zM) - Plenty Wild Farms (plentywild.ca) - Skyberry Farm (skyberryfarm.com) - Hoe Down CSA at Tulaberry Farm (hoedowncsa.wordpress.com) - Yummy Yards (yummyyards.ca) - Growing Veterans (growingveterans.org) - Beacon Food Forest (beaconfoodforest.org) The farmers narrating this film (in order of appearance): - Claire Jutras (Earth Candy Farm) - Alyssa Belter (Plenty Wild Farms) - Kate Rustemeyer (Hoe Down CSA at Tulaberry Farm) - Ellis Hroch (Earth Candy Farm) Music: - Black Twig Pickers and Steve Gunn - “Old Strange” (CC Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 International License) - Chris Zabriskie - “Another Version of You” (Licensed CC-BY) - Nicolas Jaar/Vera Remember - Essential Mix/Last Night Together Equipment used: - Panasonic GH4 and 14-45 3.5-5.6 native lens. - Occasional tripod usage. Directed/Edited by Spencer MacDonald (halfmagicfilms.com) Produced/Masterminded by Eva Verbeeck (evaverbeeck.com) This doc was made for love, not for money. Always for love. (*The average age of farmers in Canada is roughly 54 and in the U.S., 57)

A mysterious encounter between a man who claims to be from the future and the man that he claims is his former self. A surreal psychological thriller about loss and regret. We live in a world where success is the only measure of success. The lack of government funding for British basketball is stifling the opportunities for young players, voicing their passions in this new film UK government funding for sport is based on medal prospects. Basketball, played by 218,000 14-16 year olds every week, was judged to have little chance of future medals and its funding was slashed. Basketball can give hope and focus to those who might otherwise have neither - but its future hangs in the balance. Starring players from North & East London and featuring poet James Massiah, Underneath the Noise celebrates Britain’s raw talent and gives a voice to young ball players. Premiered on DAZED digital. The Whistler segment from Level 1’s 16th annual feature, Small World. Want more? Small World is now available in your favorite format: iTunes: http://bit.ly/smallworldmovie Vimeo: http://bit.ly/1RZjvCv DVD/BluRay: http://bit.ly/201p3Sm Directed by Josh Berman Cinematography by Josh Berman, Jonny Durst, and Zach Moxley Edited by Josh Berman Sound Design/Score by Stephan Chaikovsky and Schui Baumann Director Josh Berman recounts the back story of this shoot: This one has been in the making for a few years. When we last shot in Whistler back in 2013 for Partly Cloudy, we approached them with the idea of a giant step-up to step-down and the snow just didn’t cooperate. Snow levels again worked against us in 2014 and we scrapped plans altogether, but this year—despite the challenging winter that the Pacific Northwest experienced—the stars finally aligned and Chris McLeod [film and communications supervisor] and Charles Beckinsale [head park builder] worked to find a location that had the terrain and the snow to accommodate our feature. Charles is a wizard with the cat and ultimately made some tweaks to our design to fit his vision, and the end result was one of the most impressive snow sculptures I’ve ever seen. The lines were so smooth and the aesthetic so unique that we opted to not sheer the wall of the step-over. I know Charles really wanted to cut it, and the feature would have looked 10-times gnarlier, but it was so perfect that we didn’t want to change anything. And we figured we’d save Whistler Blackcomb some money on the already stretched cat budget! About Small World: Go out into the world, they say… see it for yourself! But in an age where any destination is in the palm of your hand- just a click away, what is left to truly explore? Level 1 examines the universal dialect of moving down snow on two feet through a lens of fresh perspective- documenting the outer niches of a sport pushed under the rug by the modern day ski zeitgeist. From the secret valleys of Switzerland, the ancient cities of Estonia, to the rowdy rope-tows of Minnesota- follow us around the globe as we capture skiing in its purest form. It’s a Small World, after all. Small World Awards: “FILM OF THE YEAR” - IF3 Film Festival, Montreal

Presented by Philips Ambilight TV In Association with Specialized and TomTom Bandit ActionCam Supported by Freefly Systems (MOVI), Bike Magazine, and CLIF Bar The lights haven’t gone out yet! Sweetgrass Productions is back with Darklight, a film that takes viewers back into a world of light and color. Supported by innovative television manufacturer Philips TV, this is the third collaboration between the soulful filmmakers at Sweetgrass Productions and Swedish creative house Ahlstrand and Wållgren. Follow professional mountain bikers Graham Agassiz, Matt Hunter, and Matty Miles on a mind-bending night ride through the moonscapes of Southern Utah to the Ewok forests of the Pacific Northwest. A physically and mentally demanding production, this piece was shot during the midnight hours over three intense weeks. With a scrappy and determined crew of 27, thousands of pounds of camera and lighting gear was slogged, rigged, soldered, hung and broken down each night. Unlike anything ever seen before in the world of mountain biking, Darklight features arrestingly beautiful landscapes and world class riding. An evolution of its predecessors, Darklight continues to push the creative bounds of action sports cinema. “We need to talk about Alice” was commissioned by New Zealand based agency String Theory and created to be part of Good Books’ “Great Writers Series,” a collection of short films made to promote the non profit organization (www.gogoodbooks.com) which is an online charity book store that sells book and donates all proceeds to Oxfam, an organization that fights hunger and poverty since 1995. In the last few years, a select group of directors have donated their time and knowledge to create animated shorts based on renowned literary works and authors to promote this charity. In 2012, Buck launched the amazing “Metamorphosis”, a tribute to author Hunter S. Thompson. Then came “Havana Heat” in 2013, a sensual animation produced by renowned duo McBess and Simon from The Mill. Plenty had the honor of creating the third a 2:30 minute short film for Good Books based on Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s adventures in Wonderland” to commemorate the book’s 150th anniversary. After a lot of dedication, hard work and passion for what we do, it’s our pleasure to introduce “We need to talk about Alice” We’ll be posting more about the project soon! We have a 5 minute breakdown where you’ll be able to see the whole process for this amazing adventure we embarked in! A lot of process stills, extra content and some magical gifs! We hope you love it! We were honored to be a part of a series of shorts that will leave a mark in the history of motion graphics. – Directed & Produced by Plenty Creative Directors: Pablo Alfieri & Mariano Farías Art Director: Elda Broglio Animation Director: Mariano Farías Executive Producer: Inés Palmas Producer: César Morán Mazo Concept by: String Theory E.C.D.: Jeremy Taine Writers: Devon Wood & Jeremy Taine Music & Sound Design: Liquid Studios Music Composer: Peter van der Fluit & Liquid Studios Storyboard & Animatic: Claudio Iriarte & Mariano Farías Character Design: Elda Broglio, Claudio Iriarte & German Merlo Production Design: Elda Broglio, Carolina Carballo & Eugenia Mello Background Design: Eugenia Mello & Elda Broglio Books Covers Design: Pablo Alfieri 3D Modelling: Juan Martín Miyagi, Matías Fernandez, Juan Pablo Fernandez , Benjamín Jagusieczko & Natalia Urrutia Scripting: Agustín Schilling & Ago Carrera CG Supervisor, 3D Technical Direction and FX: Agustín Schilling Character Rigging: Germán Merlo, Agustín Schilling, Benjamín Jagusieczko, Ramiro Tell & Guillermo Comoli Skin Fixing: Agustín Schilling, German Merlo & Nicolás Mandelman 3D Character Animation: Mauro Serei, Pablo Lorenzo, Laura Lempert & German Merlo 3D Animation: German Merlo, Mariano Farías & Hernán Estevez 2D Animation & Transitions: Germán Merlo, Mau Lencinas , Sergio Slepczuk, Hernán Estevez & Mariano Farías Animation Consulting: Federico Radero Painting & Texturing: Carolina Carballo, Elda Broglio, Benjamín Jagusieczko & Eugenia Mello Shading: Ago Carrera Lead Lighter: Ago Carrera Lighting: Ago Carrera, Benjamín Jagusieczko, Juan Casale, Natalia Urrutia & Matias Mastrogiano 3D Rendering: Ago Carrera, Benjamín Jagusiecsko & Agustín Schilling Lead VFX & 2D Technical Direction: Matías Mastrogiano Compositors: Matías Mastrogiano & Nicolás Holodovsky, Benjamín Jagusiecsko, Milena Girini & Edgardo Osornio Edition & Montage: Mariano Farías Live Action Actors Coach:: Valeria Grossi Live Action Casting Camera: Sandra Grossi Casting Alice: Catalina Alexander Mad Hatter: Julián Puchetta White Rabbit & Rose: Karina Hernandez VO Presenter: Michael Hurst Voice Over Artists Alice: Brie Ana Hill Mad Hatter: Syd Jackson Lady Rose: Tania Anderson White Rabbit: Ian Hughes Cheshire Cat: Michael Hurst Special Thanks: Alín Bosnoyan, Mariela Fabregas, Sam McManus & Eduardo Graña

Blu-Ray discs available here: http://bit.ly/1MZa04u Song by Kerry Muzzy: “Palladio Rebuilt” (on iTunes: http://bit.ly/pall_MO) Follow me: http://bit.ly/1TUL7Ko / https://twitter.com/mikeolbinski / http://on.fb.me/1JhP5cY / http://bit.ly/1TUL7Kt ———————————- I’ve been chasing the monsoon in Arizona for about 6-7 years now. This summer was different though. Back in late July, I was wondering why it felt like I was out chasing more than ever before. And then I remembered. I had a job last summer. This year I didn’t. I went full-time photography in November of 2014 and haven’t looked back. I was free to roam and had virtually no limitations. I even had multiple chases where I never actually wend to bed, but instead chased all night. I took the kids to New Mexico at one point early in the season. Last year I counted roughly 31 total days that I chased a storm during the monsoon. This summer: 48. Yikes. 17,000 miles driven, which was about 3,000 more than last year. Perhaps the biggest difference this year was shooting nearly 60,000 more time-lapse frames than I did in 2014. 105,000 total. And what sticks out to me even more than any of the other numbers above, is that only 55,000 of those 105,000 frames made it into Monsoon II. What that means is I was able to stuff this new film with only of the best of the best. We missed out on some of the huge dust storms like I’ve captured in years past, but overall, I think this represents some of the best weather I’ve ever photographed in Arizona. There are stunning shelf clouds, gorgeous rain shafts, lots of blowing dust, tons of lightning, and even multiple mini-supercells/mesocyclones. The brief meso over Cottonwood at the 3:38 mark is one of my all-time favorites. I can’t talk much more about the film without addressing the music real quick. The song is called Palladio (Rebuilt) and it’s once again by the amazing Kerry Muzzey who donated it to me for Monsoon II. He also let me use another song of his for my previous film, The Chase and I’m beyond grateful for his generosity. I mean, how do you thank someone enough for that? Click here to find the song on iTunes and please support his work! I’ve said it a million times…the music is at least 50% of these movies I make. Kerry’s art helps bring my films to life. Thank you my friend! When I’m out there capturing footage for these films, I’m constantly thinking about the story I want to tell. For example, I wanted a lot of erupting, towering cumulus at the beginning to launch into the meatier clips. I started laying out the film back in mid-August. Certain clips I already knew would be in certain places in relation to the ups and downs of the song itself. As the season wore on, I gathered more and more clips and began to lay out the entire film. I’d remove clips when I got something better. There was exhausting editing, re-editing, looping music, reluctantly dropping clips that didn’t work or were unfixable and watching it over, and over and over, to make sure I was telling the story I wanted to tell. At one point, about halfway through…I was telling Jina that I have a lot of great stuff, but still haven’t shot the final scene yet. I had no idea what it would be, but I knew I didn’t have it. And then that very night (or maybe the next day)…I was out west of Tonopah and I knew on the way home that the monsoon had finally delivered my ending. That is what is so amazing about doing this. You hit the road with zero idea about what you’re going to see over the course of a summer. You might imagine scenarios or have ideas, but they get blown out of the water by reality. And that’s what I love about it. My hope is that you can see and feel that love in this film. The beauty of the monsoon in Arizona. This is where I’m from and this is home. SUMER - 3D Animation Short-Film For unknown reasons, the Earth’s ionosphere has weakened dramatically during the course of the last century, resulting in the collapse of the entire ecosystem. Earth has become an increasingly hostile and uninhabitable place and with no shield to protect it, it is at the full mercy of meteors. All animal and plant species perished decades ago. All that remains is one small group of humans who attempt to resist the hostility and hardness of the external environment from SUMER, the last hive city in the world, which has been specifically designed to keep the population alive through oxygen supply systems. The media manipulates the available information in a manner that is purposely designed to keep people obsessed on the potential of the space exodus, letting any hope of prevailing on earth go. A young boy, Hermes, lives alone in a compartment, the property of the government, which is located close to the wall that delimits the city, an area that is highly guarded by the SSW (SUMER Security Watchers). While observing the desert from the roof of a building, Hermes suddenly sees something that grabs his attention… ——————————————————————- In October 2014, SUMER started to be screened internationally throughout the festival circuit. It has been officially selected by more than 50 festivals, including the “Cleveland International Film Festival”, which is an Academy Qualifying Festival, and the prestigious “New Port Beach Film Festival”. Furthermore, SUMER has won 14 Festivals: Irvine Film Festival and Phoenix Comicon, among others. http://on.fb.me/1FSnsYu http://twitter.com/sumermovie sumermovie.com Director: Alvaro García – alvaro@sumermovie.com Representation: Scott Glassgold / Ground Control – scott@groundcontrol-la.com

Samsung 4K Challenge Grand Prize Winner (http://bit.ly/1KY9fWo) Directed by Evan Mann http://bit.ly/1D5Zkir www.evanmann.com Commissioned by Samsung and PDN Magazine Music is courtesy of the Music Bed (www.musicbed.com) My friend Kira encouraged me to apply to the Samsung 4K Challenge, and so I did and unexpectedly became a top ten finalist. Samsung overnighted me the NX500 camera and told me I had two weeks to create a 5 minute film with it. Bad news was that it was the busiest two weeks of the year, and writing, directing and producing a film would be impossible, so I decided to document a week or so of my life. Composed of people, places, experiences, and events, this film is a behind the scenes glance of time as seen from my perspective. The result of this project is to me both personal and contrived. Every time I hit the record button, I questioned my intentions and authenticity of the moment. While editing, I was able to skew context, and time, rework sound and disembody sequences of actual events in my life. With the content being so personal, this made me somewhat uncomfortable, but this is the job of a filmmaker: we manipulate time, light, sound and sequence to make it what we want. I walk away from this project with a better understanding of my roles in life, as a husband, father, friend, pilgrim, adventurer, artist and filmmaker. Also, time is fleeting. I want to thank my dear friends and family who have contributed to the enrichment of my life, what a gift it is to be surrounded by the beauty of good people. Thank you Kira for passing along this opportunity:)

“Motorcycles are basically handbags for men.” - Peter Boggia. Camera • Amanda Mitchell robertoserrini.com Moto Borgatoro Part documentary, part pulp action film, all love and pure passion: “Moto Borgatoro” follows curmudgeon/savant mechanic Peter Boggia and the birth of his custom 1979 Moto Guzzi Le Mans into creation. Mind you this film is not your normal bike build movie by design; no grinder sparks, no silhouette shots, no dramatic music. Been there seen that. This one is pure adrenaline, and hopefully tightens your pants like riding the bike would. The film has received praise from the limited amount of industry people given the opportunity to experience. Filmmaker and Moto-enthusist alike claim that it’s got “Fellini roots with Tarantino fruits”. We love praise that rhymes. Love bikes, hate bike, or know nothing about them, this film is juicy enough for anyone to quickly fall in love with Peter and his bad-ass machine. About the making of the film: Shot on a Arri SR 16mm film camera, BMCC, and two 5Ds. Edited and sound design in Premiere Pro CC with some light AE magic.
